Star Rank

 
Up through First Class rank, a scout was busy learning skills and becoming a self-sufficient scout. He now moves from being a learner to being a leader. The Star rank is attained with participation, leadership, service, and self-directed advancement through merit badges.

Rank Requirements:
  1. Be active in your troop and patrol for at least 4 months as a First Class Scout.
  2. Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law in your everyday life.
  3. Earn 6 merit badges, including any 4 from the required list for Eagle. Scouts choose any 4 of the 15 Eagle required merit badges to fulfill this requirement. See the Eagle Requirements page for the list of Eagle required merit badges.

  4. While a First Class Scout, take part in service projects totaling at least 6 hours of work. These projects must be approved by your Scoutmaster.
  5. While a First Class Scout, serve actively for 4 months in one or more of the following positions of responsibility (or carry out a Scoutmaster-assigned leadership project to help the troop):
    Boy Scout troop: Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide, Order of the Arrow troop representative, den chief, scribe, librarian, historian, quartermaster, bugler, junior assistant Scoutmaster, chaplain aide, instructor.
    Varsity Scout team: Captain, co-captain, program manager, squad leader, team secretary, Order of the Arrow team representative, librarian, historian, quartermaster, chaplain aide, instructor, den chief.
    Venturing Crew / Sea Scout Ship: President, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, boatswain, boatswain's mate, yeoman, purser, storekeeper.
  6. Take part in a Scoutmaster conference.
  7. Complete your board of review.
